On Saturday, November 3, hundreds of people gathered at the Mattanawcook Academy Cafeteria for the second annual Girls Night Out: Food, Fashion & Fun event put on by Avanti Bridal Salon, Penobscot Valley Hospital and the PVH Auxiliary.
This year’s fashion show fundraiser brought in over $7,750 before expenses. All proceeds from the event will go to the 2012 PVH Annual Fund for palliative care. The focus of palliative care is to provide the best possible quality of life for patients facing pain, symptoms and stress associated with terminal illness. At PVH, they plan to use the annual fund to renovate a patient room to provide all of the amenities available at home. They plan to offer a place to stay for caregivers that prefer to stay overnight with their loved one, courtesy carts including free snacks and beverages, and much more.
“The funds raised at this year’s Girls Night Out event are going to a very worthy cause,” explains PVH director of inpatient services, Eric Himes, RN. “Our goal through palliative care is not only to treat the patient, but also provide many of the conveniences of home for the patient’s family and friends.”
Major sponsors for the event included: H. Joseph Thibodeau D.M.D. Family Dentistry & Orthodontics; Bangor Savings Bank; Gillmor’s Restaurant; Capello Hair Studio & Day Spa; Dead River Company; and Herbert C. Haynes, Inc.
The evening out also included four dance performances by Northern Lights Dance, shopping with local vendors and snacking on the fine catering prepared by the PVH Food Services staff. Students from the MA National Honor Society did an excellent job helping with vendor set up and food service. Mini cheesecakes and chocolate truffles were served for dessert, provided by the culinary arts students at Region III in Lincoln.
Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to shop with local vendors including: Beauti Control (Robin Libby); Capello Hair Studio & Day Spa; Dr. Renae Freid, PVH Family Practice Physician; Grace Adele (Katie Mackin); It Works! (Jodi Gomm); Jewelry by Deb (Deb Stroud); Label Shopper; lia sophia (Cheryl Russell); PVH Cancer Support Group; PVH Imaging Department; Scentsy (Kati Wakefield); Sister Stuff (Brenda Brehaut); The Pampered Chef (Mary-Beth Libby); thirty-one (Marisa LeBlanc); Transition Hair & Tanning; and Women Heart.
The hosts would like to thank the following businesses for helping out at the event: Ray Grindle, Master of Ceremonies; Sheila Irene Photography and Dr. Joe Thibodeau, event photographers; and Taylor Limousine, VIP limo ride provided to winner Jeni Ward and friends. They would also like to thank the hairstylists and makeup artists Patty Cloukey, Carly Cropley & Melissa Troulis for the fabulous work on our models and dancers. Also, a big thank you goes out to the models who volunteered many hours to make this event possible, and the dancers from Northern Lights Dance who “Dazzled” the crowd with their performances.
